Before I die, I want to go on an adventure travel in Asia. Not just ANY adventure travel in Asia, but to ride across Mongolia on a tough local horse. I have only ridden in the Main Line of Philadelphia and the English southern counties. What do they have in common? FENCES. And traffic. And rednecks who like to see if throwing firecrackers under your horses hooves might make him act all funny.

Now, Mongolia is a country that rests on a horses back. They still rely on an agrarian culture. They also have miles of miles of nothing but land. Imagine sailing the seas of grass on a four legged boat. Horse lovers have many choices of adventure travel in Asia, not just in Mongolia.

The travel industry was quick to notice that if you love horses, the chances are good that you would not mind spending a little money to ride in foreign countries in all kinds of terrain. You are then introduced to your horse. Mongolian horses are scruffier, sturdier versions of Mustangs. They are direct decedents of the mounts ridden by Ghengis Khans hoards. The look small, but they are strong. You then get a test ride to se if you fit with the horse selected for you. The next day you get to say whether you would rather stick with your initial horse or get a clamer or livelier one. In my daydreams, I get one that snorts fire. It doesnt matter that I havent ridden for three years for a two thousand dollar vacation I want to ride and not just shuffle about.
